Recent Activities

We’ve spent quite a lot of time in the past weeks with the owners and decorators of Richard Cable Interiors looking for furniture to stage this one home that needs to sale.  This is no average home.  It’s built with Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) walls, has foam insulation in the attic and all exposed wall spaces, has four bedrooms, one game/guest room, a theater room, office, etc, etc.  There’s crown molding, granite counter-tops, parquet wood flooring in the dining space, even a stained wood ceiling in the vaulted office space.  It’s a big space to stage, but I’m thinking we did a terrific job of it.  If you’re interested to see the home, or the furniture, or perhaps looking to purchase a home that is extremely energy efficient and yet elegant and refined, you should give us a call at 256.88.5767.

Pictures of the interior to come soon.

On Saturday, September 26, we participated in the Green U Festival.

And although, sadly the event got rained out, it was a good initiative by the local community on having a day dedicated to learning, playing and talking about ways to begin or enhance living a green lifestyle.

Tax Credits

Check out the website  link below if you’re in the process of building a home or even if you find yourself in the process of doing some updating on old appliances, HVAC systems, doors and windows, etc.

Federal Tax Credits for Energy Efficiency

Just a few words on what you can expect on these tax credits that are now available for home improvements:

  • must be “placed in service” from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010
  • must be for taxpayer’s principal residence, EXCEPT for geothermal heat pumps, solar water heaters, solar panels, and small wind energy systems (where second homes qualify)
  • $1,500 is the maximum total amount that can be claimed for all products placed in service in 2009 & 2010 for most home improvements, EXCEPT for geothermal heat pumps, solar water heaters, solar panels, fuel cells, and small wind energy systems which are not subject to this cap, and are in effect through 2016
  • must have a Manufacturer Certification Statement to qualify
  • for record keeping, save your receipts and the Manufacturer Certification Statement
  • improvements made in 2009 will be claimed on your 2009 taxes (filed by April 15, 2010) — use IRS Tax Form 5695 (2009 version) — it will be available late 2009 or early 2010
  • If you are building a new home, you can qualify for the tax credit for geothermal heat pumps, photovoltaics, solar water heaters, small wind energy systems and fuel cells, but not the tax credits for windows, doors, insulation, roofs, HVAC, or non-solar water heaters. More.
