27 March – Ray of Hope!

This coming Sunday, 27 March 2011, we will be participating the the 2011 Ray of Hope Fundraising Event that is sponsered by AshaKiran.  

AshaKiran Presents its annual fund raiser – A Ray of Hope Event 2011. Famous standup comic Dan Nainan will be bringing his brand of 100% clean comedy to Huntsville. Dan has performed all over the world to large audiences and at corporate conventions. Indian novelist and journalist,Thrity Umrigar author of The Weight of Heaven, The Space Between US, and First Darling of the Morning will be the featured speaker at the event. AshaKiran is committed to educate, empathize and empower persons of South Asian origin while providing confidential referral services.

AshaKiran fills a need in the community that the mainstream agencies may not be able to address adequately. We partner with local agencies to make their services more accessible. Based on recent statistics, almost 40% of the South Asian community in the United States suffers from emotional trauma. In addition, many have a difficult time asking for help. Some common barriers are; Communication and language barriers Lack of support from family and friends Lack of knowledge about available resources Cultural and religious diversity from mainstream belief system AshaKiran is to be a ray of hope toward building a healthy and harmonious community.
